Experiencing the Nature Park

Hundreds of kilometres of maintained walking trails, cycle paths and bridleways guide visitors through far-reaching forests and romantic river valleys to the most beautiful lookouts and the region’s fascinating historical buildings, monuments and museums. A large number of educational trails have been created to help visitors enjoy a richer experience of the natural world and understand it. You can learn about the region’s historic mining periods on the mining trails and in the many mines that are open to visitors today.

There’s a high likelihood of snow thanks to the region’s ideal conditions of relatively low average temperatures and high precipitation levels. As a result, the landscapes of the Erzgebirge and Vogtland are not only a traditional holiday and tourism destination for the inhabitants of the urban centres surrounding both regions in summertime – they are also a winter sports paradise.

The best-known holiday and skiing centres are Schöneck, Klingenthal/Mühlleithen, Carlsfeld/Johanngeorgenstadt, Oberwiesenthal, Seiffen and Cämmerswalde/Holzhau, as well as the spa destinations Bad Elster and Bad Brambach.

To raise awareness about the nature park among local residents and visitors, we are erecting information points at selected tourist locations around the nature park region. These information points present the nature park and our nature and species conservation work, as well as providing information on culture, tourism, the historic crafts of the cross-border region, its forests and watercourses, and much more.  There are currently information points in the lookout towers on the Fichtelberg, Aschberg and Auersberg mountains, as well as at the Rechenberg-Bienenmühle open-air pool.

Financial support was provided by the small projects fund of the SN-CZ cross-border cooperation programme.
